Abstract
It is generally accepted that ginsenoside Panaxadiol (PD), Panaxatriol (PT) have the anti-invasive and anti- metastatic activities. Angiogenesis is an essential process for metastasis of solid tumors. We examined the anti-angiogenic activity of PD and PT on the chorioallantoic membrane (CAM). In vivo CAM assay showed that PD and PT significantly reduced neovascularization. To investigate the roles of the PD, PT in the remodeling of endothelial cells, we performed MTT assay, tube formation assay and wounding migration assay using bovine aortic endothelial cells; PD and PT inhibited the proliferation, tube formation and migration. However, the expression of VEGF was not changed by treatment with PD and PT. These results suggest that inhibition of endothelial cell proliferation and migration by ginsenoside PD and PT contributes to the anti-angiogenic activities.
